On any Friday night in Aspen, Colorado, the locals gather at 7:30 at the Big Bear Hotel to sit by the log fire and listen to the local storyteller, affectionately known as Old Tom. He is old now, but when he was younger, Old Tom was a hunter in the area when it was just a small town surviving on the money gleaned from tin mining. Old Tom was hired to kill marauding bears and cougars that were killing cattle and various livestock. On Friday nights, he would sit by the roaring fire with his Sioux Indian score named Hummingbird and tell stories about his life in the good old days. His life seemed to be an exciting adventure that he and his squaw shared in the late 1840s.
